You’ve likely seen the bumper sticker or a meme, or some other representation of “Practice Random Kindness, and Senseless Acts of Beauty.” Well, this is good advice for brands as well.
Both adages stem from the principal that “to give is to receive“, and no-where is this more true than in social media.
In addition to creating and sharing original content that provides value to your customers, practice some random liking and sharing of others’ content. Is there a cause you follow socially? Someone who needs a little social love to get through a bad day? A charity that’s doing an outreach you can help spread the word about?
The point is to engage socially (liking, sharing, commenting, etc.) without expecting a “return on investment”; to do so simply because it feels good. This is vital for managing your brand equity. Consumers want to see the humanity behind your brand – that your brand is not just taking, but also giving and caring. Yes, it’ll take a bit more time for your monthly social media management, but as Deepak Chopra says regarding The Law of Giving & Receiving:
“The universe operates through dynamic exchange . . . giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.”
